Problems for Pentagon’s immigrant recruit program

Stricter Trump administration immigration policies have stymied Pentagon plans to restart a program that allowed thousands of people with critical medical or Asian and African language skills to join the military and become American citizens, according to several U.S. officials.

The decade-old program has been on hold since 2016 amid concerns that immigrant recruits were not being screened well enough, and security threats were slipping through the system. Defense officials shored up the vetting process, and planned to relaunch the program earlier this month.

But there was an unexpected barrier when Homeland Security officials said they would not be able to protect new immigrant recruits from being deported when their temporary visas expired after they signed a contract to join the military, the U.S. officials said. They were not authorized to publicly describe internal discussions and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The program is called Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program, or MAVNI. The plan to restart it was backed by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who believes that noncitizens can bring key skills, language abilities, and cultural knowledge to the military.

Why are we allowing 'immigrants' with temporary visas to join the military?

It sounds like these are TEMPORARY residents.

why doesn’t the military or other businesses wanting people with these skills seriously put the word out that there is a want or need and support training actual USA citizens to do the jobs? we ( the country) really has very little need to import labor/employees of any kind if govt and business would think properly. Goes hand in hand with bible of Train up a child scripture....train up teens, adults changing careers, etc. If parents and educators and business etc would teach the importance of countries being unique and different (as Trump is helping with) - oh, just realized that goes against the globalist everything fair for people except for elites plan that has been being forced on USA and the world in recent decades. We don’t need foreignors for jobs, we need to train up USA citizens.

The Pentagon should NOT have the right to give away citizenship. They need to recruit AMERICANS. Period.

. . . thousands of people with critical medical or Asian and African language skills . . .

Medical, I understand. These people are in short supply everywhere. But we sure don't need anymore Ft. Hoods. The need can be filled with contract workers, if necessary. Yeah, it is more expensive, but how much did Ft. Hood cost us?

Asian and African language skills? I'm a little less understanding. They need to be a little more specific here. Somehow, I doubt that they are talking about Mandarin, Bantu or Japanese. More likley languages spoken by the Religion which Cannot be Criticized.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s DACA caca. DACA are still illegal aliens.
We should not give waivers for DACA which is an illegal program started illegally by an illegal President for illegal aliens.
Why are we STILL allowing sexual deviant freaks to join the military?
Why are we STILL allowing radical feminists to dictate training, assignment and promotion policy within the military?
I got a cool idea. How about we not go to war in Africa, then we don’t need people who speak Swahili.
