With apologies to Rudyard Kipling, If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs . . . you are Donald Trump. At least that was the case Tuesday.
With Democrats going mad, Republicans going wobbly and the media mob acting like a lynching party, it was left to the president to call bullst on the Brett Kavanaugh allegations and remind the nation of the enormous stakes involved.
On a normal day, in a saner world, Trumps tough-love speech at the United Nations would deserve our full attention. It was a comprehensive outline of his America First doctrine, but the elephant in the room is that America cannot lead the world when it is unraveling at home.
And so the president stepped away from the General Assembly and onto the bully pulpit to forcefully denounce the partisan attacks on his Supreme Court nominee as a con game. He accused Dems and, by extension, the media of playing a very dangerous game by instantly embracing every charge as gospel.
This is about whether there are any boundaries left in our politics. Or whether this is a war where anything goes and the goal is the total annihilation of the other side.

If the RINOs chicken out, we are some combination of Venezuela and East Germany.
Democrats don’t want the rule of law; they want mob rule.
We’re in a non-shooting civil war which the left is pushing hard to go full hot.
So TRUE!!!
I don't think they will. I've been cussing Grassley out for two weeks now but I don'r really think any of this is his fault. I'm sure he's been working closely with McConnell. Mitch is whipping the votes and knows that Collins and Murkowski would have flipped if they thought Ford hadn't gotten a 'fair' hearing. She's getting her hearing today and I have a feeling its going to blow up in the rats faces.
The fact that we're having the hearing today tells me that the two RINO 'ladies' are still on board. Mitch is a lot of things but he's been very good with Judiciary nominations. He may hate the President but he likes his judges.
Actually, the question is, can the Democrats come up with anything else? The President was right, this is the exact-same shtick they tried on him.
Also, and perhaps more importantly, can the truth ever be known when the only people talking are pathological liars?
Trump stands alone. The Omega Man.
That’s our ace in the hole.
At the end of the day Mitch is REALLY, REALLY P*SSED.
The Democrats have been playing games with these nominations for over a decade. Whatever else you think of The Turtle he is a stickler for Senate process and tradition. He keeps thinking he has partners across the aisle who agree, only to have them turn around and stab him in the back whenever it suits them.
If the Dems get away with this the process is broken forever. In his heart of hearts I know that is something Mitch cannot abide.
He is going to cram this down and strongarm as many votes as it takes.
No! What country have we become!
“Being polite gets you nowhere with a wolf pack..”
Comparing liberal wing nuts to wolves is an insult to any wolf.
Dim’s characteristics are more identical to a pack of howling, yipping hyenas.
Most important question: What country will we be if he is not confirmed?
Yours is a cogent analysis. Thank you.
I completely agree.
I believe the author has got it. This is a war and the Left intends to win by any means necessary and at any cost to the country and the rest of us.
this whole thing with Kavanaugh is:
PAYBACK FOR HIS PARTICIPATION WITH KEN STARR AGAINST BILL CLINTON.
Nothing more.
At the bottom of the ‘Rat party and all its faces — BLM, Antifa, you name it — is its loathing of the Constitution and the restraints on totalitarian government it represents. Assuming Kavanaugh is confirmed, one of the Rats’ major accomplishments here is removing any doubt he may have had about standing for the original intent of that document.
Thanks for being the voice of sanity.
Grassley won’t hold a vote until the votes to confirm are there.
I always think it is like the Country Club elite going up against the Brown Shirts.
I just finished reading yet another book on the lead-up to Pearl Harbor, and there was a situation where one of our guys wanted to set up an intelligence section to decode the foreign intercepts and was told that "Gentlemen don't read other gentlemen's mail."
Same mindset.
