Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Wednesday said that a planned hearing where Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and a woman accusing him of sexual assault are expected to testify will go forward on Thursday as Kavanaugh faces allegations of sexual misconduct from a third woman.
"I feel like I have a definite responsibility to hold a hearing, not only for (Blasey Ford) but for Judge Kavanaugh," Grassley told reporters in the Capitol on Wednesday.
The high-profile Senate Judiciary Committee hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, with Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, his first public accuser, scheduled to speak.
Ford alleges that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed at a party in the early 1980s and tried to remove her clothing. Kavanaugh has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
Republicans have hired an outside counsel to ask questions. Grassley, the committee's chairman, separately told reporters that he wasn't sure if that meant Republican senators wouldn't also ask questions.
There had been no indication from Republicans that they would call off the hearing after lawyer Michael Avenatti revealed allegations from a third accuser against Kavanaugh on Wednesday.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters that a committee vote on Friday on Kavanaugh's nomination was "the goal."
The plan to push forward with the hearing comes despite Avenatti's release of the identity of a client who is accusing Kavanaugh of being present for a “gang rape” where she was a victim.
Avenatti, who also represents adult-film star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuits against President Trump, tweeted out a sworn declaration from Julie Swetnick in which she declares she met Kavanaugh in “approximately 1980-1981” and attended several house parties at which Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were also present.
The Judiciary Committee is reviewing the allegation.

If Grassley (and all other Republicans) had a set of gonads, the hearing would start at 8 AM and continue until ALL accusers were heard. Don’t show up, then shut up.
Then take the vote out of committee. Followed by full Senate vote.

Expect grassley to hold more hearings for the new accusations. And the upcoming accusations, which there will be more because any additional accusations will just stretch the clock out that much more. The republicans have shown they are more than willing to play into the democrats hands.

I wouldn’t count on her coming across like a nut, she’s been rehearsed and is a professor. She’ll definitely have the appearance and speech of normal. She’s still telling lies though.
No, if Perfesser Fraud does not show at a stipulated time the hearing is cancelled. In a perfect world a vote would immediately follow or the matter would be referred to the Senate. Of course, we are living in a world where our leaders are clueless and pussy-whipped.

"He said, she said" comes down to the best story told. She will have a good one and Kavanaugh will have none. Any evidence he produces that shows he wasn't involved will be simply overlooked by the 3-4 rinos.

since all allegations have, and will come, are baseless, designed to trick the American people into denying Kavanaugh a seat through politics, stop caring what happens, ram all the things through you can, trust the people, we are at war and need folks willing to do whats right..no more backing up, forward only, press on..to hell with elections, when in power kick ass. thats what the dems did, confirm Kavanaugh, as far as I am concerned declare marshall law due to an insurrection on the border in defense of the nation, circle a major city with troops and remove all illegals 18 and over, tell the rest of the country that if the illegals leave now they will not be prosecuted, else they will and be placed in a tent city in the arizona desert, all under 18 have to be run through immigration for some sort of care until 18 and removed..
and If Mr Trump really wants to help folks with taxes, make it mandatory that no property tax increases will go into affect for those who are 50 and up, property tax for one home is locked at 50, this way folks can have a limited budget and not fear about cost going up on their homes..I would take many more as well
