FBI crime statistics place Baltimore's homicide rate above that of any other U.S. city with a population over 500,000.
Citing crime data released Monday, The Baltimore Sun reports that the 342 homicides in the city last year yielded a homicide rate of 56 per 100,000 people.
Among big U.S. cities, Baltimore was followed by Detroit, which recorded a homicide rate of 40 per 100,000 people; Memphis, Tennessee, with a rate of 28 per 100,000 and Chicago, with a rate of 24 per 100,000.

Totally unexpected....
I wonder what the common denominator is in Baltimore? Maybe I should call it the lowest common denominator.
Chicago will make a comeback this year, Go Chicago!
I guess when you charge a whole paddy wagon full of cops with murder in what was obviously an accident, the police in that city get the message.
Baltimore is a leftist sh*thole. I don’t even like flying through the airport.
The mayor said we “gave those who wished to destroy space”.
The citizens are reacting to her decision. Years later, and a different mayor, but once the mayor opens that door it’s hard to change the attitude of those wanting to destroy and those who don’t trust the police to protect them from destruction and fending for themself.
MerryLand.
Yes. Baltimore was already in a tailspin when it became a Freddie Gray area.
"...well it's about time we got to the top"
Yes.... must be the fault of the cops. Right?
You don’t say. Put cops behind bars for going after bad guys and that will embolden the criminals? Had no idea.

I remember a friend who lived in Annapolis telling me 25-30 years ago what a shithole Baltimore was.

“Chicago will make a comeback this year, Go Chicago!”
Chicago has a long way to go to have the highest homicide rate in the country and there are dozens of cities in the United States with higher Homicide Rates.
I was sure the leaders of Baltimore were onto something with this effort, eh?
Can we blame the “excess deaths” on BLM like how they calculated excess deaths to pin on Trump in Puerto Rico?
342 homicides is more (and the population is less) than in 1989, the year David Simon chronicled the Baltimore homicide squad in “Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets”. Later it became the acclaimed 1993-99 TV series “Homicide: Life on the Streets”.
