“If Mr. Rosenstein exits, Noel Francisco, the solicitor general, would assume oversight of the Russia investigation, according to a Justice Department official. The acting deputy attorney general would be Matthew G. Whitaker, the chief of staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, an unusual move. “

Firing Rosey might be a mistake. Trump can keep him under wraps at the DOJ, maybe even demote him. If he’s dumped he will join the punditry at MSM and become a hero to the left, which is not needed weeks before the mid terms.
Speculation and rumors do not raise the level of the conversation. Rod Rosenstein is very much a creature of the Swamp, and he sincerely believes it will protect him. As of the present time, he is entirely correct in that assumption. Unless there is sufficient evidence to be made public of either a dead girl or a live adolescent boy in his bed, not much of anything will touch him.
For sure his immediate boss, Jeff Sessions, is not making the right moves here. What pictures of obscene little secrets do the Swamp denizens have on Sessions?

Trump is being played. He should not fire anyone. He will never get another appointment. So if he thinks there will be a replacement that he likes, he is crazy.
I wonder whether the WH will accept the resignation?
For example, they could yank his clearance. Certainly enough evidence to support that.
They could also inform him they want him at his desk when they declassify.
What might follow from that is he’s taken from his desk in cuffs, much like they did traders on Wall Street in the 80s for insider trading.
