Senate Republicans on Friday extended a counteroffer to Christine Blasey Ford to testify on Capitol Hill next Wednesday, amid negotiations over whether Ford will elaborate on her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in public.
It was not immediately clear whether Ford would accept the offer. Fox News was told that the Republican senators want an answer “by the end of the day.”
“We need to hear from her,” said one senior source familiar with the process. “Monday is the preferred date. But we are open to other things.”
A senior Republican source told Fox News “we can’t postpone forever.”
Ford has accused Kavanaugh of attempting to rape her while both were in high school. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley had invited Ford to testify on Monday and gave Ford until 10 a.m. Friday to respond. That deadline passed Friday without a deal after Ford’s attorneys made clear this week Ford didn’t want to testify Monday but suggested she would another day.
Ford attorney Debra Katz told the Judiciary Committee on Thursday that Ford is willing to appear for a hearing on Capitol Hill as long as senators provide "terms that are fair and which ensure her safety."
Among the terms requested by Ford’s legal team: Only members of the committee -- no lawyers -- can question her; Kavanaugh cannot be in the room at the time; and Kavanaugh should be questioned first, before he has the opportunity to hear Ford's testimony.

I say pay for her drive out there as well. Send he a cab from NY with one of the smelly guys driving it and 2 of his brothers to provide security so we know she will get there safe. We want her well rested for the hearing. :).. Of course when Wed comes she will claim she is tired from all the driving even though she will probably fly in the night before on a private jet.

No practicing female defence attorneys. A person like that will do a very different job than someone who’s spent more time in congress than courtrooms, especially since re-election and image wouldn’t be their highest priority.
And a female doing the questioning wouldn’t play as well on CNN as an “old white male harassing and bullying a sexual assault victim”. And this is about getting footage for CNN, not discovering facts.
There are a few female liberal lawyers (not left or progressive or members of Warren’s tribe, but traditional “liberal”) who don’t agree with Kavanaugh’s positions but think the correct thing to do is respect our elections and proceed with confirmation, and that DiFi and the accuser are making a mockery of the senate and our legal system. If republicans could get one of those women, CNN wouldn’t even be able to attack her past or motivations like they would with a conservative woman. Dems are not taking any chances, and want to ensure this can not happen before agreeing to show up - they wouldn’t get ANYTHING useful for CNN so better to let CNN make stuff up.

I am sick and tired of our mealy mouth Republicans. When are they going to grow a pair? Saw what you will about the Commurats, but at least they fight for what they believe.
It’s not going to matter. Only 25 percent of the public believes her at this point.
She won’t allow any lawyer to question her nor will the Committee allow her to testify without Kavanaugh’s atty the opportunity to question her.
