The study was performed using a model that compared deaths from previous year to year of hurricane. There were 2,900 more deaths and so they attributed all to the hurricane. Absolutely ridiculous.
Note the media tactic. They run to a couple of Repubs, and put a mic in front of them. If they’re not up to speed on the specifics of the story, what are they supposed to say?

Media people love gotcha questions. Anyone who does interviews should have at least a rudimentary understanding of this.
The methodology of the study is actually very good, its exactly what you would want to do to get a reasonable estimate of how many deaths could be attributed to a major event like a hurricane which has long lasting effects.
