If the waves are 83 feet in the open ocean, won’t they typically increase in size when they get to shore?

(I’m in flyover country so have no direct experience with ocean wave behavior)

Not in the east coast, the continental shelf will slow the swells way down. If they were to hit Hawaii or most of California they’d be huge.

My USMC son and his wife, who live 24 miles from the coast (but pret'near the Neuces River) in New Bern NC are bugging out. to Aunt Linda and Uncle Greg's, way inland.

Where do the hummingbirds go in a hurricane?

I remember about fifty years ago the East Coast was so dry the people were praying for a hurricane. That was the year the Everglades dried up.

Watched some show on a big cargo container sinking in the Pacific. They figured it caught between on super rogue wave and snapped the keel in half. Picture a large cantilevered beam hanging from the top of a hundred foot wave...

Not in the east coast, the continental shelf will slow the swells way down. If they were to hit Hawaii or most of California they’d be huge.

Example: I'm in Hobe Sound FL east coast, we have to go out 26 miles to reach deep water fishing (1,000-2,000 ft). It can be 45 feet deep for several miles before you get to the 100's.

Now the Bahama's are only 56 miles out from our inlet.

That's a cute, alarming link and all, and you may feel really important posting that, but...
What is never mentioned or referenced is...

How many hours/days/weeks/years does it take to safely totally shut down this type of plant?
