No one has to pay a tariff. It is just like a lottery ticket. Both are completely optional and are voluntary taxes. In fact, tariffs are completely able to be bypassed by buying a US made good. With lottery tickets, you can’t practically buy an actual lottery ticket that government doesn’t originate, so you’d have to play some other game.

Everyone paying a tariff chooses to pay it. Doing so helps reduce the need to penalize reportable income earning.

Tariffs penalize foreign good purchases. Income taxes penalize the earning of reportable income.

Which tax is healthier for ANY country?

Spoken like a true elitist. For low income people, buying a more expensive item isn't an option. The inflation generated by tariffs is a killer

Oh well, let them eat cake, I guess.
