Doing so would mean he’d be finished in the Senate. He wouldn’t win reelection in Nebraska as an independent. Hell, I would be entirely shocked if he’s ran out by the GOP primary electorate the way Flake and Corker were.
He should resign - then RUN as an independent. He doens’t want to be on our team? Find. Works for me.
In a three way race? Don't count him out, especially if he continues to caucus with the Republicans and support them legislatively. All going independent would do would allow him to bad-mouth Trump more than he already does.
