These ratings declines can cost big bucks.

I don’t know details of the contracts. But I understand if a certain minimal rating is not achieved, there are provisions for the NFL to have to pay back some of the fees paid for broadcast rights.

Bottom line is that if this keeps up, it will hit the NFL owners in the wallet. .

Yeah, NFL has to give back free advertising time if they don’t meet minimums. I’ve read, some of the big advertisers have yet to buy time - if NFL tanks again this year, these advertisers will move their dollars to College Football games.
