Yawn. I still say the NFL isn’t going anywhere. There are approximately 130M regular followers of the NFL; those that actively seek the content. That’s an almost unfathomable number and no other business/sport/hobby/entity can really make the same claim.
You can yawn for a while but that 130 million is down from before and if you continue to pile on 10% drops yearly your days as a viable business are numbered. It won’t be in days or months of course but it will be in a few years.
Further, if I am an advertiser I am going to demand cheaper rates because I can clearly cite numbers showing the demand for your product is slipping annually. When that happens and the next time the NFL and the thug union negotiate a contract is when it all hits the fan because the owners will have to give in to the continued high salary demands or start making deep cuts elsewhere or raise ticket prices even more on the fans.
If they were smart they would fire the commissioner and institute a SHALL stand policy and then punish those who do not severely. It will bring back some of their fans, but some are lost forever because the NFL’s owners and players have shown how they really feel about the country and the fans, they shot them the bird and decided to add and the horse your rode in on to them as well.
No one expects it to go anywhere, but it is now becoming a marginal sport, not the dominant one it once was.
