Cat Taken in to Be Euthanized But Vet Refused and Saved Her Life Instead

Mischa the cat spent all her life with her previous owner until things started to change when she was nine years old.

As the household grew and she continued to age, they had less time to be with her and she started having some urinary tract issues.

"Her former owner contacted a local veterinary clinic to make an appointment, but it wasn't for treatment for the cat. It was for euthanasia," Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a rescue group in Montréal, Canada, shared with Love Meow.

The clinic didn't want to put down a cat whose illness was treatable. "They tried to convince the owner to surrender the cat instead of euthanizing her. She was resistant at first, but finally said yes."

The staff took the calico into their care and gave her the medical attention she needed. That's when they contacted Chatons Orphelins Montréal as they hoped to find her a foster home.

"The older girl was overweight for her size at 6.15kg (13.6lb) while she should be around 4.5kg (9.9lb). We started her on a diet to help her lose weight gradually," COM said.

Odile, a volunteer of COM, took her home to foster. They immediately bonded.

Mischa quickly came out of her shell when she was with her foster family and found her place on the couch as if she owns it.

"Their connection was instantaneous. Mischa became the queen of the house."

"Since she came to us, she hasn't had any trouble using her litter box. She is healthy and she loves her life," COM said.

Mischa is sweet and very affectionate. She follows Odile everywhere she goes and constantly demands cuddles and attention from her.

She loves spending time by the window and watching human TV with her family.

Little things make her a very happy kitty.

What she loves the most is to be close to her humans and give them a snuggle when she wants a cuddle.

Odile was planning to adopt her out when they could find her a good home, but that never happened because Mischa had already found her perfect match.

Yesterday, Mischa officially became a permanent part of her family with Odile.

She couldn't be happier.

"It's hard to believe that she was going to be euthanized, and now she sleeps right next to her human mom every night," COM said.

Happy and loved!

Yeah, she was given up. Told to put her down. But no, they found a life for her and fixed her up. There are angels in our world.

Are YOU and angel?

My Vets refuse to put down any animal that can still be helped. Some owners want to take the easy way out but my Vets won’t do it. They will adopt an animal themselves or make it a “clinic pet” until they can find it a home. They also won’t do abortions on a healthy animal that is carrying healthy pups/kittens.

So, the vet fixed it for the same price to put it down? That is a person dedicated to their vocation.

Who put this in “Extended News?” It’s a cat story, folks. We could post a million of them.

This is not a News topic. It’s a Chat item.

I love calico and tortoiseshell cats. We have had several over the years, and every one of them had a wonderful personality.

I saw a healthy cat at the animal shelter one day, and it said on the description that the owners had turned it in to be euthanized, but the shelter refused. The cat was very sweet and affectionate.

I cannot understand people who acquire pets as convenient “fixtures” and want to dispose of them when they become inconvenient. I see it all the time, mostly just “for the kids.” When the kids mature and lose interest in caring for the animal, the pets are discarded.

How can you not bond with such a creature over that many years?

Wait . . . what?!?! There are abortions for pets?! Wow. Ours really has become a culture of death. PS: Mischa is gorgeous.

It has always been the vet’s recommendation to put down an ill pet that I’ve brought to it, but it is always my final decision. It has almost killed me a few times to make that decision.
