Air Force One is Air Force One only when the president is on board. Air Force Two is Air Force Two only when the vice-president is on board. The McCain family only rode on a real nice Air Force plane.
The President approved an Air Force passenger plane to transport McCain’s body and dreadful family.
This plane may or may not be used, on occasion, by the VP but this flight was most definitely not designated AF2.
Let’s not feed into McCain’s fantasy that he was important. If the funeral wasn’t a rally against the President, he’d be four days in the ground already.

The funeral was nothing but a deep state rally. Just a nauseating display of ruling class a-holes. The picture of W clasping Mocchels hand summed it up. F all of em.

Nope, no more than Air Force One would keep it's designation if only Mrs. Trump was onboard. If Karen Pence is onboard and the Vice President is not then it's just another Air Force plane.

(I watched it for the reruns of a scifi show I remembered more fondly than it was the second time around.)
The channel ran promos for "Raising McCain", Meghan McCain's show, ad nauseam. Then, it was 2x worse when she had a special guest, her father on.
Then, I couldn't take it any more: I gave up watching an old show of erratic quality combined with McCain promos.

Good question as to what the gov’t pays towards elected officials funerals.
I’m sure it is spelled out in some legislative action or guideline.
