Some of could have predicted at least some of this based on Bush’s record as TX governor, and a few somewhat obscure actions as President. I believe it was the head of the TX teacher’s union who once referred to Bush as a “Texas Democrat”. The man was big government through and through. Some of his former big supporters say that he is a “moderate”. They simply don’t want to admit their mistakes.
Bush got a lot of mileage out of pretending to be an actual conservative Christian, too.
I’m beginning to wonder if we wouldn’t have been better off if Gore won in 2000. Yeah, it would have sucked big time...but GWB? He paved the way for Obama. And wasn’t that much different in heart and goals.
