This is getting no coverage and if you want to avert your gaze, that is fine, We should not be involved in the matters of a sovereign country. But I want to carefully watch for the third staged "chemical" attack "on civilians" and I urge the President to DEMAND absolute proof,. this time, and not rely on the always wrong " consensus of the intelligence community" as was done in Iraq. Our policies in Syria have been dead wrong. The President has reluctantly allowed the deep state/ neocon cabal , now headed by John Bolton, to keep pushing this incredibly wrong policy of illegal military occupation of a sovereign country. The President instinctively and correctly announced we were "getting out of Syria" two years ago but was sadly persuaded to remain to try to negotiate something ( only the Deep State knows what). Then the neocon / deep state colonialist tried two earlier bogus chemical attacks as excuse for attacking this sovereign county ( and as we say in the South , they are fixing to do it again( in Idlib very soon. This was done to drag us into a war to remove the elected leader of Syria who has never lifted a finger to attack this country. Trump was persuaded to take military action on the bogus chemical attacks on "Children" but both responses were purposely feckless , I think,on his orders. There was no proof of who opened chlorine canisters. First ,we bombed a runway that was repaired in hours and in the second illegal attack we fired 107 cruise middles at two old empty buildings killing no one. I think he ordered both weak responses to be weak. because he was unsure of the proof. We need to get the hell out of Syria and not be drug into another war by false pretense.
“Our policies in Syria have been dead wrong. “
Absolutely correct.
US interests are best served by the Syrian government asserting control over the entire territory of the country.
As for the remnant fighters, they are Islamic terrorists and always have been. Sure, there’s at least 40 flavors of them. And Turkey, SA and the US have been their sponsors and supporters since the war began. Especially Turkey.
They do, in fact, need to die.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of million civilians in the very same ground space.
The proper way to get it done is infantry supported by precise air strikes.
The cheap way is artillery and carpet bombing.
And it’s obvious the course Syria and Russia will choose.
And it’s absolutely no different than how the US handled Japan and Germany during WWII. I cannot blame them for doing what must be done.
Too bad they will not drive to the heart of the beast in Ankara.
