URBANA — The invitation went out on Feb. 12 — Lincoln's birthday.
The letter from University of Illinois President Tim Killeen to former President Barack Obama invited him to accept the Paul H. Douglas Award for Ethics in Government, handed out by the UI's Institute of Government & Public Affairs.
It wasn't the university's first run at Obama.
In 2017, the campus had spent months trying to persuade the former president to deliver the 2017 commencement address, shortly after he left the White House, but it wasn't to be. Nick Offerman spoke in his place.
This time, the answer was yes. Obama accepted, and a few weeks ago confirmed that he will visit the UI on Sept. 7 to accept the award and give an 11 a.m. speech to students at Foellinger Auditorium. It is not open to the public; tickets will distributed to UI students from all three campuses through a lottery system.
Obama had been nominated earlier this year by an IGPA selection committee made up of public and private individuals, including several of Douglas' grandsons.

FREEPER ANALYSIS Behavioral Sciences and psychology are dismissed by our side is being USED by the other side. Psychology is not just “counseling” or some frivolous study. It is a weapon when used in certain ways to strategically position image, words, feelings of large groups of people.

We had better start paying attention to this and grab the language: stop using their terms, stop giving into their demands, stop apologizing for offending them, stop changing team names and acting as if their complaints are real when they are not. ANALYSIS The spoken truth is what THEY say it is.....it must be stripped of any concept of 2000 years of man's knowledge of right and wrong. 2008 candidate Obama’s calm cool voice of reason was supposed to prevail. Remember when Obama calmly assured America that once he was elected all Mideast “hostilities” would cease. A confident Obama would make sure America was once again “respected” around the world. And who could forget Obama’s “Arab Spring” when all of the terrorists would suddenly become sap-happy humanitarians, weaving daisy chains while frolicking around the May pole?
2012 Ohaha used the same conniving 2008 strategy patented by PR honcho Anita (Mao) Dunn---to manipulate voters, to downplay Ohaha's bgrnd, his destructive policies ....and his scary plans for his next term. Remember, Dunn said back then, that THEY and only THEY decided what the media and the voters should know about 2008 candidate Ohaha.
The strategy was to have Ohaha and his shady handlers play the innocents---the "don't worry--we're harmless" act.

Just 10 short years ago I was having a ‘discussion’ with my ultra-Leftist brother and his wife. They posited that America was responsible for ALL the World’s ills. I responded that America has been the greatest force for good that the World has ever seen. They don’t ‘discuss’ with me anymore. They are part of the useful idiots the Left has been cultivating for years.
I suspect Mr. Douglas (1892-1976) is turning over in his grave in protest.
