Imagine this exchange:
Professor: “Was the man in 1967 called the N-word?”
Student: “No. They called him a nigger.”
If the student was black, people would laugh. If the student was any other color, they would call for his immediate expulsion.
How do you discuss history if you cannot even quote what people actually said?
