The mother of a 10-year-old boy in North Carolina is outraged that her son was recently punished for calling his fifth grade teacher "ma’am.”
Wilson noticed her son, Tamarion, was not himself when she picked him up from the bus stop earlier this week.
“I asked him what was wrong, and he told me he got in trouble for saying 'ma’am' to a teacher. I was confused,”
Inquiring further, Wilson asked her son to give more detail about the incident. That’s when the fifth-grader at North East Carolina Preparatory School in Tarboro, North Carolina, pulled out a piece of lined paper with the word ma’am written dozens of times.
Wilson was shocked, especially when Tamarion told her that his teacher, who has not been formally identified, told him that he was required to return the piece of paper with a parent’s signature.
The young boy also claimed that the teacher threatened to throw something at him during the incident, his mother said.
“He was disappointed because he felt like he had done something wrong,” she said.
The next afternoon, Wilson went to the school to meet with Tamarion’s teacher and the school's principal. With her she brought a separate piece of paper on which her son had written the definition of ma’am. (According to the Oxford Dictionaries, ma’am is defined as “a term of respectful or polite address used for a woman”).
Wilson claims Tamarion’s teacher told her that her son “was getting on her nerve when he called her ma’am" but “couldn’t give me a reason of why that was bad.” The teacher also claimed Tamarion knew that she wasn’t serious when she allegedly threatened to throw something at him, Wilson said.
Tamarion has been placed in a different teacher’s class since the incident occured.

The only upside to this story is that at least the parent found out early enough in the year to prevent lasting damage being done to her son by this 'teacher'.

Then we can all protest at her home.
The student should return a signed letter by their family attorney with two pages of “see you in court”.
This supposed teacher is by far not the brightest bulb on the tree and should not be teaching, send her back for remedial classes.
“Well, obviously “ma’am” is just a racist teasing dog whistle as a white-privileged shortcut for “madam” - which is like, yo know, calling me a ‘ho’ ain’t it?”
“And, if I ain’t no woman in my head, then you be insultin’ me by implying I is a woman!”
As I’ve been known to say when being chewed out for holding a door: “I’m terribly sorry ma’am, I mistook you for a lady...”

This ‘teacher’ is a perfect exemplar of all that’s wrong in academia.
This is a good mother. She pays attention when her son acts in unusual ways. Then she confronts the situation in a mature, civil way. She didn’t drive to the school, kick the Homeroom Class door in, and start pulling hair weaves out of the teacher’s latest ‘do’. Nor did she hide behind a keyboard and try to conduct a dialog that way. This method could have been stretched out for months.
She is so used to “F’n bi**h” that ma’am sounds insulting.
I was also impressed that she made it clear this wasn’t about racism, that it’s a problem with a bad teacher. I use the term teacher loosely.
She sounds like a woman who knows how to handle herself.
I’ll bet the teacher is a negress. I’ll read the thread now to see if I guessed right.

Okay, I’m not the brightest Bulb in the Pack, but doesn’t that mean that the Teacher admitted saying she threatened to throw something at the Child?
What is this “allegedly” stuff. She admitted it but then says the CHILD took it the wrong way? WTH is that?
Lesson #1 in life. Never let the other guy know what annoys or troubles you if you don’t want a lifetime of it?
Another useless waste of oxygen who can do nothing productive, so she went into “education.”
Get your children out of public school. They will be ruined there. Homeschool coops are growing, join one, or put them in a religious school of your choice.
I went to Catholic schools from 1st grade through high school. There were non-Catholic kids there too because their parents knew the education was much better.
When I went to grade school 1st and 2ond grade the nuns we had were Gestapo rejects because they were too mean.
I got my hand whacked numerous times with a yardstick for trying do write with my left hand. That was the devils hand don’t ya know.
Eff the Catholic schools. Home school.
