The primary doesn’t effect his seat. He’s not up until 2020. The open seat in AZ is Flake’s. Owing to the timing (its beyond the date when McCain’s seat would have to have a special election), when McCain passes, it’s up to the governor to appoint his replacement and it MUST BE a Republican.
The Gov. did not want to name Meghan until he was safely past his primary.
McCain was just re-elected in 2016, he wasn’t up until 2022.
His daughter will have to run in 2020.
