San Francisco and Los Angeles probably should start loading up the school buses for evacuation now.

My suggestion would be to evacuate everyone in San Francisco to the safety of the Los Angeles area, and everyone in Los Angeles to the safety of San Francisco.

I know a lib who is moving to the coast of Oregon. She’s scared of her own shadow. She’ll go crazy when she feels her first tremor.

Still checking out the Washington State Yakima Rattlesnake ridge slide and watching for earthquakes in the area. Nothing new since the original reports.

There have been moderate quakes in that area a month or so ago.
Good catch!

A number of small ones is much better than one bigger one. Mother nature needs to keep relieving the stress on the faults a notch at a time...

No sea bottom level dislocation, so no tsunami. Lucked out.

For God’s sake don’t tell her about all of the volcanoes in that part of the world. Just because they only blow up every 50 years or so, doesn’t mean they won’t blow next week.

Just a little something for her to think about.

Should we talk tsunami?

Really? I was thinking there were a whole lot of places in Texas where they would fit right in and be in a safe zone for them, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth.............

Every few hundred years, there is a massive 9.0 magnitude mega thrust earthquake that produces massive tsunamis off the Pacific Northwest coast. Cascadia subduction zone. Can have Indonesia 2005 or Japan 2011 type tsunamis. Last one was January 26, 1700 at 9 pm Pacific time.

Were there foreshocks before the Tohoku quake? Indonesia?

Good questions.

There was a 7.3 off the coast of Venezuela yesterday.

There have been a lot of 5.0 + quakes lately.

Nope, Cascadia is far, far away. I think Seattle is in for the big one soon, hasn't ripped since what, 1700? And it obliterated the coast of Washington and Oregon as well as reaching Japan. SF and LA don't need to worry so much, any tsunami will be mere inches. But residents of the far northwest US coast in Washington state and Oregon should worry big-time, as that region will also be hit by a tsunami when the big one rips, and it will be huge.
