I am really confused here. The purpose of a security clearance is to determine that a person is able and willing to safeguard classified national security information, based on his or her loyalty, character, trustworthiness, and reliability. The Bureau of Human Resources determines whether a Department of State position will require a security clearance, as well as the level required, based upon the duties and responsibilities of the position. A clearance allows a person filling a specific position to have access to classified national security information up to and including the level of clearance that they hold, so long as the person has a need to know the information. And to be honest, there are 16 clearance levels above even the president.
I was relieved of “need” in 2013. My clearance was erased when I retired from government employment and downgraded to just like any citizen. And because I don’t have a need to know anything anymore, it was the correct action. So, what’s the big deal? Brennan doesn’t work for the feds anymore. He has no need to know anything within the sensitive areas of the federal government. So why does he need a clearance of any kind?
I say, let him have it. And the first time he elaborates anything of sensitive value while working as a mouthpiece for MSNBC, arrest him and try him for espionage. That will keep him busy for about twenty years.
