At this point, no one knows what will happen. My prediction, take it for what it is worth, is that Ellison will be forced to step down as the Democrats AG nominee. Not because he is a socialist or worse, not because he is a long-time supporter of the Nation of Islam and an anti-Semite, and most important, not because, as a life-long supporter of, and advocate for, those who murder police officers, he is utterly unfit to be the states chief law enforcement officer. Rather, because many Minnesota Democrats are bitter about the fact that Al Franken was driven out of office by his Democratic colleagues for far less..
The only reason they drove Franken out was because of the Alabama special election. They needed to wrap themselves in a cloak of righteousness as they pushed their phoney stories about Roy Moore. And since they could afford to jettison Franken without losing the seat, they did so.
With all the talk about a "blue wave" in November, there hasn't been a lot of attention paid to a couple of close House races in Minnesota where the GOP can actually pick up seats currently held by Democrats. Race and gender politics will be a major factor in the pressure by Democrats to get rid of Ellison. The optics of a black man physically abusing a white woman are terrible in a state where 85% of the population is white.
2005?
Nope. It’s because they think he might lose.
They don’t care about any of the rest of that stuff.
