First, the history: Reagan and his CIA Director Bill Casey set about to bankrupt the Soviet Union in the 1980s. The twin pillars of this policy were to cut off Soviet hard currency income from the sale of oil and natural gas, and a huge defense build-up that forced the Soviets to put yet more of their already-strained resources into utterly unproductive assets. The oil and gas was taken care of by: 1) Reagan delaying the twin Soviet pipelines into Europe by 2 years, and cutting it down to one tube; and 2) bribing the Saudis with an absolute security guarantee, in return for which they vastly bumped up production...and they went from about 2.5 MBD to 12 MBD in around 6 months.
Now fast forward by some 35 years - Donald Trump comes along and promises to unleash the US oil and gas industry to produce so much product that we will not merely become energy independent, but (once again) energy DOMINANT. Fracking technology and the oceans of oil and natural gas under our soil in shale deposits makes this possible. He also promised a massive increase in defense spending. OTOH, Hillary promised to keep the energy industry shackled, and said not much of anything about defense (but had a history of contempt for the entire military establishment and its priorities).
Oh, and the entire Russian economy is about the size of New York State’s, and they get roughly 2/3 of their foreign currency earnings from the sale of oil and natural gas (just like in the 1980s).
Question: So, if you are Vladimir Putin and the Russian leadership, WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT DONALD TRUMP TO BE ELECTED POTUS??????
Answer: you wouldn’t, not if you were interested in a safe and prosperous future for your nation. You would, instead, desperately have wanted to have Hillary elected in 2016...especially since you had the goods on her WRT the entire Uranium One affair.
The hilarious part is Trump Tower is a public hotel, just like every Holiday Inn, and bound by public accommodation laws hat universally prohibit nationality discrimination. He couldn’t have kept Russians from renting space in Trump Tower any more than he could have kept Kenyans from doing the same.

Pure BS up to the eyeballs that has been going on since day one. Meanwhile Clinton Uranium deal among other treason and felonies goes ignored. The media is the number one enemy of this country and the leftism that fuels their fire.
Also, whether Russian businesses nowadays are or are not connected to the Russian Mafia or the FSB is something people argue about. I wouldn't rule out connections, but I also wouldn't simply assume, as Unger appears to, that Russian firms today are arms of the FSB or the Mafia, or that the Russian Mafia was simply a branch of the KGB or the SVR or the FSB.
