All trials are won or lost through jury selection...

Bull, and most of us agree with you.

How can a man have the right of self defense, yet be prohibited from the apparatus to do so?

Ask the Elected Criminals of most states which tax ammunition such as to become unaffordable, or buy up the entire manufactured supply, or legislate the impossible, demand the ineffectual (e.g. firearms that are keyed to an individual only, or kept locked so perps can invade your home and kill you and your family anyway.)

“True. But there are other means of lethal self-defense. If one of them had been used, he would have gotten off. And rightfully so.”
Yes, we are agreeing on this.

Silly solution.
Bringing a club or a knife to a gunfight still won't work...

Felons are still humans. They have the right to self defense. There should be a clear mechanism for them to regain their right to keep and bear arms.

There already is. Check the GA law. This fella didnt yet qualify.

I once got a felony probationer’s “possession of firearm” charge dropped by a judge in a very similar circumstance. It happens.
