I used to live in the 5th CD of Minnesota. Accordingly, I have a number of friends who are politically plugged in, as they say, on the other side of the aisle.

They were appalled that Ilhan Omar even won the Democrat party’s endorsement earlier this year. Many of them wrote it off to the fact that the delegates making the endorsement selection were the hardcore far left activists. They called it “identity politics”.

Yes folks, here were dyed in the wool Democrats calling Omar’s selection as “identity politics”. They were concerned because Ilhan Omar’s total experience has consisted of two years as a state legislator. Nothing more, nothing less.

Many Democrats jumped on the candidacy of Margaret Anderson Kelliher (aka Large Marge) the fomer Speaker of the state House. Large Marge was a total liberal but she wasn’t a freak.

I have to admit that I was astonished by the margin that Ilhan Omar won. May out there (on both sides of the aisle) were expecting a closer race. Looking at the results, Omar did extraordinarily well in the Somali areas of Minneapolis but she also cleaned up elsewhere in the district.

So who do we blame this on? The Somalis? George Soros? Nope.

Omar won strongly on the votes of white liberals. She couldn’t have won the primary any other way than by appealing to guilt-ridden identity politics obsessed white liberals.

This is a very safe district for the Democrats. The general election is a mere formality now. Omar will have this seat as long as she wants it. as long as she wants it.
