There is a difference on this case. The reason for the high conviction rate is the government only takes sure things to court. Partially because the guilty defendants take a plea and partly because the government only takes slam dunk cases to court.
We know that the government originally passed on this case. That may indicate that they didn't think this was a slam dunk and therefore is not up to their usual 95% standard.

Not true. Federal TRIALS have a 93% conviction rate, but the vast majorities of defendants plea bargain without facing a trial. Also, consider that by far the vast majorities of federal trials are for immigration- or drug-trafficking-related offenses, and that the feds don’t claim jurisdiction for actions that have both state and federal crimes unless they feel they have a rock-solid case.
