FED up with creeping socialism, conservatives in BIG push for constitutional convention

It’s Time: There hasn’t been one since the earliest days of our founding, but conservatives — increasingly alarmed by creeping socialism, Left-wing courts, and Democratic efforts to overturn the 2016 election are now turning their attention more avidly towards a “constitutional convention.”

In the days of the Tea Party movement, a book called “The Liberty Amendments” by constitutional scholar, author, talk host and former Reagan Justice Department official Mark Levin sparked a modern-day convention movement that would operate much as the first “con-con” which took place from May 25 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia.

“I think we’re three or four years away,” former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn told The Guardian on Friday at the annual convention for American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

“The deep state would salivate at the prospect of a constitutional convention. Too many RINOs too.”

Absolutely. We’d see the Bill of Rights getting chiseled, and the surveillance state enhanced. Full spectrum perverts, cultists and global wetbacks bolstered as well.

We had a miracle outcome in 2016. This would flip it right back to the uniparty to inject with imbecilic ideas. We have all we need except resolve.

Exactly correct.

The underlying basis of most of the replies here, is that “constitutional convention” bad. I think we can ALL agree on that.

A Convention of States is NOT a Constitutional convention... it is merely an alternate mechanism to propose badly needed amendments, whose subjects will NEVER be proposed by congress itself.

Should make the distinction very clear... because some lump the notions together, even though they are very different things.

Day one will be chaired by GOOGLE, Zukerberg and Soros on the first amendment to define "hate speech" (they won't be there physically, but they'll be there).

Day 2 will be the second amendment to define rights to large capacity magazines and other gun related dangers .

Day 3 will be to repeal the 17th Amendment giving back the power of state legislators to appoint their own crony puppets as your representative Senator (wink-wink)

Day 4 and beyond won't matter because days one, 2 and 3 have destroyed everything we knew as a free country.

No need to worry about funding. The entire "convention" will be funded by the Silicon Valley, Soros and the Clinton foundation,

So you’re against:

Term limits for Federal judges including the Supremes?

Term limits for Senators and Reps?

Balanced Budget amendment?

Re-asseeting the 10th amendment?

Putting the brakes on the runaway 14th amendment?

Just how do you propose dismantling the “unconstitutional 80%” with the worthless 2 party system thats primary goal is to control all the power through laws and judges to interpret them as they see fit, our money, and our daily lives?

Not a constitutional convention, a convention of states. Big difference. And absolutely necessary to turn this not around on many points such as term limits for general judges to rein those guys in. Can’t do it since life terms are in the Constitution

For a Convention of the States dedicated to Georgia’s application language, which would re-balance citizens’ rights versus federal power and state power, the count is 12 down, 22 to go.

For a Convention of the States dedicated to a balanced budget amendment only, the count is 30 down, 4 to go.

The problem is the lawlessness and the lying nature of the Left, not some shortcoming in or paucity of law.

If we can’t follow the Constitution that we have, what is the point? And if we just follow the Constitution we have, there is no need.

Term limits for Federal judges including the Supremes?

Maybe but it is not a dipositive issue. States with Govneors who have the kahunas to do so need to NULLIFY and REJECT unconstitutional federal laws, acts, and decsions. You can have CoC's 'till the cows come home, but without minds sets on INEPENCECE rather than depence on the feds, you're not going to get anywhere.

There MUST be a change of mind among the states, and the people, and their elected officials. Prepackaged, "instant" approaches like a CoC show a lack of thinking things through and won't cut it. Another bunch of "sound and fury" that basically signifies and will amount to nothing or very little.

Term limits for Senators and Reps?

One good reason for having a VERY LIMITED CoC. However, our $3 Trillion + unconstitutional portion of the feds will need much more than this.

Balanced Budget amendment?

Another wrongheaded idea out of the gate that fails to address the real problem of unconstitutional federal spending and would actually make matters worse, allowing the Lying Left to force higher taxes because of their out-of-control and mostly unconstitutional spending. It would be a disaster.

Re-asseeting the 10th amendment?

Don't need a CoC for that and again fails to address the underlying problem. As I said, a change of mind among the states and the American People from dependence to INDEPENDENCE from the feds is absolutely essential to restore our Free Constitutional Republic.

Putting the brakes on the runaway 14th amendment?

The counterfeit "Incorporation Doctrine" and its fruits for the last 100+ years needs to be nullified and rejected. The best way is, again, by the people through first their states and also by electing more federal representatives like Trump.

Just how do you propose dismantling the “unconstitutional 80%”

The same way Patton proposed to cut through Europe held in the grip of the Nazi arsenal - cut through them like sh#t through a goose - with prayers to God for help. The same way the rag-tag colonists beat the most powerful military force in the world - by determination ad faith in Divine Providence.

But your attitude looks like you've already lost the war. You sound like either a POW or an MIA.

“.... States with Govneors who have the kahunas to do so need to NULLIFY and REJECT unconstitutional federal laws, acts, and decsions. …..”

You mean like California & New Your and all the sanctuary cities have been doing; “nullifying” federal immigration laws? They claim they’re unconstitutional! We have to be very careful with this! Though the “immigration nullification” issue might correct itself soon when we get a guaranteed 6-3 (or more!) on the USSC.

Clarifying the “Commerce Clause” would also go a long way in helping!

A BBA with a limitation on spending might be ok. Say spending can be no more then 20%-25% (Still too high! 25% way way too high!!) of GNP.

Exactly what the English "Loyalists" said to the Founders. Good luck in POW camp.

Common. The Left has negated the Constitution for the last 100+ years. They have NO Constitutional grounds for their position especially on illegal immigration which is specifically forbidden (Art. IV, Sec. 4). (Illegal immigration and immigration of our enemies are invasions.)

No. It's time for Patriots to stand up and NULLIFY and REJECT unconstitutional federal acts, laws, and court decisions.

Thank you for your truly excellent post. It is a delight to live in a country that has even one such as you, and I am sure that there are many many others. You are a patriot and a scholar.

My question is that I can see no way to get there. I mean no way at all, including a con-con or even a civwarII or anything in between. I can see a currency collapse or an invasion as possible, but neither would bring about these things. Any ideas? What next?

You are right that the founders thought that impeachment would be a check on the judicial branch, but what you are describing never happened and I can see no way for it to happen. Any thought on how to bring this about?

Except for the 16th and 17th Amendments. Include a balanced budget, term limits, and bring back the militia and you have a winner.

Forgive me but I really do not know what you are saying. If you are talking about a shooting war, here on US soil, with the Dimwitcrats and RINO's fighting on the other side...you do know we do not have any kind of organization or communication apparatus needed for such a conflict, don't you?

I am sure that you are feeling very strong emotion and this is just hyperbole. We cannot even come to a consensus here on FreeRepublic about whether to vote for RINO's in the coming general election. There are people here who have the deepest hatred for supporters of Ted Cruz. Are we gonna come together under arms? How do you see that happening?
