They Left China to Chase the American Dream. Now They’re Fighting Affirmative Action.

IRVINE, Calif. — George Li grew up in a Chinese society that he felt did not offer a fair shake. The government of Mao Zedong deemed his family capitalists and imprisoned his father.

So when Mr. Li moved to California in 1999, he felt he had found his American dream. He worked hard and earned his rewards: a master’s degree, then a job that allowed him to live comfortably with his wife and two children.

But four years ago, he became alarmed when a co-worker told him about a state measure that would allow California’s public universities to use affirmative action in their admissions. Fearing that this would hurt his children’s educational chances, Mr. Li for the first time in his life became politically active.

He signed a petition and donated money to a campaign to stop the affirmative action measure. He sped up his timeline to become a citizen so that he could vote. He campaigned for Republican candidates for the State Legislature. More recently, he took the lead of a local Chinese-American political action committee, called The Orange Club, which is now focused on supporting California Republican candidates in the midterms.

“We just realized if we’re not involved in this process, the political process in America, we would be forgotten,” Mr. Li said.

Mr. Li, 49, is among an increasingly vocal group of Chinese-Americans who were once politically dormant but have been galvanized by the fight over race-based school admissions.

From Irvine to Houston to the Washington suburbs, Chinese activist groups like The Orange Club are beginning to capture the attention of lawmakers and influence policy debates. Much of their political activity can be found on the Chinese social media network WeChat, where the activists share articles and spread their message. And they have a clear litmus test

It would be interesting to find out whether this is an isolated data point, or a building trend. Asians used to vote GOP fairly reliably. A key data point was the 1992 election:

Given the rate at which American-born Asians were sleeping with the enemy (i.e. wypipo) even back in the 90's, I'd expect the Asian vote to shift bigly towards the white column, going forward:

36 percent of young Asian Pacific American men born in the United States marry white women, and 45 percent of U.S.-born Asian Pacific American women took white husbands.

The Chinese are white, but have smaller noses and slanted eyes. Euro whites have rounder eyes and longer noses. Chinese, like euro whites, brought their work ethic with them, they are for the most part dependable workers and they continue to seek knowledge. They are not into give me free stuff because they know free stuff has no real value if its free. Most of all, Eurasian girls are hot.

Asian voters have had a massive shift to the left in the past 20 years.

They stand firmly on the left & deserve the abuse they are receiving.

Trump and GOP should reach out to Asian Americans and rally them on this issue. It is much easier to do so than do blacks. The Asian population is a big enough to make difference in the final tally

I never understood why Asians would vote for Democrats in the U.S. I’ve never met a group more unapologetically and brutally opposed to any form of welfare than Asian immigrants.

Trump and GOP should reach out to Asian Americans and rally them on this issue.

That's exactly what Trump is doing (indirectly) by painting Maxine Waters as the face of the Democrat Party.

The Harvard case is ready critical. All of this SJW identity politics culture stems from affirmative action in college admissions, and without that indoctrination, Asians would’ve long ago gone Republican. Praying that SCOTUS will rid this nation once and for all of legally sanctioned racial discrimination.

voting overwhelmingly Dem and deserve the abuse….

I believe they and all other leftists will someday have to answer to God for what they have done. Killing living babies by abortion murder, taking good people’s freedom, eventually deciding to send older people for euthanasia due to govt. medical plan cost burden, mocking God, removing the 10 Commandments from buildings, pushing sex change to young people, attacking males as toxic white supremacists, and much more.

The Asians who are not literal cyberspies here should wise up and stop voting Dem-—the Dems will sell them out as soon as they demand fair treatment. Dems never give fair treatment.

This is not surprising news.

The antiAmerican, SJW/Left/Communist agenda is very strong in politics, media and academia.

As Chinese American, I can share with you. The reason that most Asians voted for Democrats is that Democrats made them “feel” inclusive. The issue of “feel” is very important to them. They are from non-western culture and are apprehensive when they came here in the US. They were emotionally vulnerable. When Democrats use all kinds of “feel” tricks to allure them, they came along and they are made to believe whites do not like them. I know for facts, most Asians know little about policy. They go with their “feel”. They are strange. If segregation is reinstated, they all want to live in the white neighbourhood. Some of my friends asked me how to vote in the 2016 election. I did not bother to get into policy. What I advised them is this, take closer observation each party convention audience. Pick up the one you would like to live as your neigbors.

I think that the rise of voting rat among Asians is due to the influx of less educated Thailand and Cambodian Asians.

The Japanese have pretty reliably voted Republican because they blame Truman for bombing their cities. The Chinese are industrious hard workers whose parents have raised them to be scholarly and high achievers.

There is a difference in the Asians that come from various countries.

Unlike the many blacks, Asians by enlarge when shown how dems and the media have fooled them over the years, they are willing to find out what’s true and what’s not. But many red neck attitudes have turned them off from the conservatives and you’re playing into it.

Oh, it’s my fault. I see. I’m some redneck scum. Fact is this: Asians have made their own bed. Has nothing to do with conservatives.

I’ll give you a hint of what this is all about. Asians are going with the anti-white zeitgeist that drives the current culture. It’s identity politics & those politics put ALL non-whites in opposition to the majority culture.

It is you who are being “played”.

I wish I could agree with you.
In old Jules Verne era novels writers used broad brush nationality and racial stereotyping like “hard headed German.”

My university city has thousands of Chinese and a few other Asians. I worked with and had student assistants from Indonesia,China, and elsewhere. One Chinese Christian (strongly anti-abortion and anti-Comm.)whose parents are still under surveillance by the Commie govt. was totally pro-GOP. All the rest would, if still here as citizens later on, vote straight Dem.
My apt. complex has about 30-40 out of 268 Chinese vs. non.
The huge complex next to this one (about 400 people) has probably 80% Chinese (!!). Only heard a few but they were 100% pro-Dem. Most are not citizens.

I see a lot of babies now and that means anchor babies and maybe some family chain migration??(That didn’t stop 2.6 million illegals in Calif. from voting Dem.)

It’s really up to Asians to stop following the herd & start voting in their own interests....which is to vote conservative.

The Asian vote is something like 70% democratic. Very much like the Jewish vote.

Chinese don’t look like us, so why should we support them?

Just kidding.

Anyway, they (Asians) are a MUCH LARGER segment of the population than Republican leaders think...there are nearly 50% as many Asians as blacks now...they can really, really, help us...if we get serious about working with them.

The only thing binding them to the Democrat Party is their media is their HARD LEFT media (sound familiar), and their only issue (other than this affirmative action crap now), is immigration, and Republicans, IF THEY HAD A BRAIN, would make distinctions between Asians and immigrants, say from El Salvador, or the Middle East. But they’re frightened by the media to do that...so to Asians the Republicans are simply anti-immigrant, which means the Republicans don’t want their family members coming here.

But their kids are being screwed, BIG TIME...and that does give us Republicans an opening, and IF THEY HAD A BRAIN, they would use it.
