A Tale of Three Cities: Once Shining Beacons of America's Success, Now Sliding to Chaos
American Thinker ^ | 08/10/2018 | By Brian C. Joondeph

Charles Dickens wrote the classic A Tale of Two Cities a century and a half ago. It's a story about two famous cities of the times, Paris and London, around the time of the French Revolution. These cities were the height of sophistication and enlightenment in the world, long before American cities caught up.

Three American cities did catch up and were at one time shining beacons of American success: San Francisco, Chicago, and Detroit.

San Francisco was the gateway to the Pacific and lands beyond – beautiful city on hills with the Golden Gate Bridge connecting San Francisco to Marin County, one of the wonders of the modern world. Chicago was the hub of transportation and commerce, connecting the eastern and western halves of the United States. Detroit was an industrial behemoth, home of the auto industry and the assembly line, bringing prosperity and convenience to millions.

Songs were written to celebrate these great cities. Tony Bennett left his heart in San Francisco. Chicago was Frank Sinatra's kind of town. And the Motown music genre began in the Motor City.

As Dickens wrote, "[i]t was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness." Perhaps the best of times for these American cities was 50 years ago, when they and their leaders basked in the age of wisdom. Today, these cities are facing the worst of times, due to their own foolishness. What happened?

San Francisco is being overrun with the homeless and illegal aliens due to its sanctuary city status and virtue-signaling leadership. The streets are littered with human feces, hypodermic needles, and syringes, turning the once beautiful "City by the Bay" into a cesspool. What's the response of San Francisco leaders? Banning plastic straws.

It is VERY sad that these once great cities have been destroyed due to the Socialist Democrat Party.

I’ll add, ‘The People’s Republik of Milwaukeestan’ to that list - we left in 1970 and it has NOT improved, only gotten more violent and Detroit-like. What a shame! Once a powerhouse of ship-building, industry, brewing, etc.

Some reason people can’t see this? Is there any way to turn these cities around, or is it too late?

Solutions are usually pretty simple. Unfortunately, they’re rarely easy.

Check images of Detroit and Hiroshima 60 years ago and the same cities today.

Proving that it’s easier to recover from a nuclear bomb than from extended Democrat rule.

Have you noticed some of the greatest years of New York City were under Republican mayors? Like Fiorello La Guardia and Rudolf Giuliani?

Sliding?!? Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco are already in the hull-crushing abyss of chaos, perversion, and corruption.

It’s fun to watch everyone try to ignore the elephant in the room.

Question: What is the major difference between Detroit in 1950 and Detroit today?

Answer: the population of people with high time preference, low impulse control, and poor future time orientation increased greatly.

Some one posted an electoral map of Illinois for the 2014 Gubernatorial Election showing that Rauner won every county but Cook ( i.e. Chicagoland) and the vote totals were 1,823,627 (50.3%) for Rauner and 1,681343 (46.4%) for Pat Quinn. There is no clearer example of what our big RAT-run cities are doing to our country.
And that if we don’t figure out a way to blunt their ability to control vast areas of less densely populated territory, it will be over for America as we know it sooner than anyone predicts, with or without Trump.

And pretty much all of it can be laid at the feet of Coleman Young, a Black Commie sharecropper from Alabama who was Detroit’s mayor for some 21 years. The Black Mayors who followed, were just batting “cleanup,” until several of them went to jail for corruption.

Erie, PA. Democrat, biggest city in NW Pennsylvania. De-industrialized, de-populating, demoralized dump.

One small skin eruption in the vast rash known as the Rust Belt.
