pic of a triumphant O’Connor...

8 Aug: Columbus Dispatch: 12th Congressional District: O’Connor gains 190 votes on Balderson
by Jack Torry
O’Connor closed the gap by 190 votes Wednesday when Franklin County elections officials discovered that three Worthington precincts voting at the Griswold Center had not been counted Tuesday. Presuming no immediate changes in other counties in the sprawling 12th Congressional District, Balderson now is up 1,564 votes over O’Connor...

However, simple math shows O’Connor remains a long shot to emerge the victor. He needs to win about 57 percent of the remaining 8,483 uncounted ballots to make up the deficit. While that might sound doable, the 8,483 total assumes every single provisional ballot will be counted and that every single uncounted ballot that was mailed overseas or to a member of the military is returned within 10 days...

Rick Saccone knows that provisional ballots matter. The Republican, who in March narrowly lost a special election to Democrat Conor Lamb in a western Pennsylvania district that Trump won by 20 points, at one point saw a 95–vote difference between himself and his opponent. But the provisional and absentee votes sealed the deal, giving Lamb the roughly 650 votes that cemented his victory.
Months after his own race, Saccone said there’s an inadvertent danger in the gerrymandered districts that are primarily Republican but wedded to a more liberal–leaning city, as the Pennsylvania and Ohio districts are...

***In retrospect, (Rep. Steve Stivers, the Upper Arlington Republican who heads the campaign organization for House Republicans) said, he wishes Republicans had sent out absentee-ballot request forms earlier — the Democrats got theirs out a week earlier than the GOP did — but said it’s a lesson learned. Some of the GOP ballot applications also had incorrect information, meaning party workers had to scramble at the last minute in an attempt to remedy the defect...

How did O’Connor gain those votes? Did they find a box of votes in the trunk of a Democrat’s car? Also, were all the found votes for O’Connor? Sounds like Al Franken was in Ohio giving them some pointers on how to overcome a close election defeat.

Believe me, Al knows all the tricks and he has used them.
