Here in the NOLA area the name Dabdoub is not uncommon. One used to be the Met Agent in Mandeville. Others have non traditional Middle Easter jobs (no bodega operators, gyro restaurants, etc). The name may be Syrian/Lebanese but these people appear to be completely assimilated. It has been suggested that these folks ancestors came to NOLA from Lebanon after the anti Christian pogroms in the 1840’s and that explains the apparent complete assimilation.
