The New York City-based bank announced that it has expanded its cardless access to nearly all of its 16,000 ATMs nationwide.
The new technology will allow customers to get cash through their phone’s mobile wallet without needing a physical debit card or an access code for authentication.
Users can simple “tap” their smartphone on the ATM to “easily and securely access money on the go.”

I used to have a Christmas Club account where the bank has to stamp the total in a small booklet by hand. Not too sure about all this new stuff.
And if you lose your phone?
Or hacks your phone with a portable machine, like they can cards?
Pretty soon they will have a mark we can just put on our right hand or forehead. No need for cards or phones.
Why did we have to get the chip cards again?
To prevent card fraud?
But now we can just program the phone to be the fraudulent card.

I’ve put thousands of chips in me over the years, the last time at lunch the other day.
The day is coming when man will be unable to buy or sell without their phone. .. Society will then ver quickly move to a chip in the hand or forehead. You will be controlled or executed. The Bible said it was coming .and... the perferred method of death is decapitation, probably by a religion of peace follower with glee in his eye.
That used to be standard with the old savings accounts:

I watched a presentation by a former hacker who now works for Microsoft. He asked if anybody had a new credit card with a chip. Several people stood up. He pointed a device at them and told them their names and (if I recall) addresses. He said, the problem with the new security feature is they never ran it passed a hacker. “Give a person a portable phone and they say, ‘great, I can make calls.’ But give a portable phone to a hacker and he says, ‘gee, I wonder what else I can make it do.’”
The mindset of the engineer who designs something is different than the thief who wants to steal something. You need both to create a secure system.

You can still always utilize your mattress to keep your cash.
Put that chip in your hand, and how long will it be before thieves start amputating hands to rob ATMs?

I carry my credit cards in an RF blocking case. I used an RF blocking money belt when I visited a country known for petty theft crimes.
New technology means you should use new means of protecting your property.

Awesome. I think you are on to something. Here’s something you might be interested in. One of my employers used RFID tags on our badges to track where we were and how many times we went to the bathroom. An employee kept his badge inside a magnetic blocking pouch. I don’t know if this could also block the signature of a gun, but it’s possible.

Chip implant at birth. In our lifetimes. For commerce — it just has the side effect of being able to track the whereabouts of the person forever.

If you lose your phone, you can still use a card.
You can also replace the phone (as you would) and load the backup, resuming normal use.
That's BS. A chip card is dead without power and power can only be applied at the chip contacts. Power cannot be directed at the contacts without frying the subjected person.
Perhaps the people had some sort of NFC or RFID item. But credit cards do not use NFC or RFID.
