This kind of thing is more common than a lot of people might think. How easy is to forget the nightly dose was already taken then mistakenly take a second dose? In an elderly person it could suppress the breathing enough they would just stop breathing in their sleep and pass away quietly. It happens in younger people too but usually that’s more intentional.

Spent many a late night listening to Art after spending 3-4 hrs of NVS flying. I was too wired to sleep and listening to Art and his one of a kind voice helped calm me down.

You think the shadowy assassins he was worried about for so long finally got to him?

Good ending to his story, but he prolly just boozed a bit too much while taking his meds.

I catch myself doing the same every once in a great while.

XD

I heard Art complain on the show a number of years ago about having a bad back.

This is a very real problem but the sad experience of the last twenty years has all but proven that taking multiple controlled drugs is NOT the way to deal with it.

They don’t make people better and actually often end up killing them.

Art appears to have suffered from COPD on top of the decades-long back issues, so what you suggest seems quite possible.

Let the dead R.I.P.

Unfortunately not nearly enough.

I doubt many people under fifty would recognize her name.

Good radio. I remember where I was when this happened. Won’t say I was hanging out with a cat in my car getting a head change.

Like an actual cat. Taz was a beastie. He’d drop by, catch a head change, then go off to do cat things.

;)

Sounds accidental to me, too. Memory gets worse as you get older, especially if you have a daily opiate habit. And you can take too much a few times and not have your lambic brain cease. But that one time, when the animalian brain just stops, so does the heart and the lungs. Game over.

I was not a big Art Bell fan but I’m sorry he died of these drugs, probably accidentally.

Exactly. Breathing doesn’t have to shut down by much for someone with COPD to just stop. While asleep and drugged. It’s remarkable it doesn’t happen more often. Once you get used to taking a ton of opiates, you think you can take more than you can handle. Also —- if he had gone without for a few days, then had the pain back and taken his “usual 4” , it could have been suddenly too much. Once the limbic brain stops, boom.

If you listened to Art over the decades, and understood the schedule that he kept up, I don’t think you could believe that he was a ‘boozer’.

Was awesome. Better than some of his Y2K stuff....and with Ed Dames and all the others....

Awesome radio. Pretty sure everyone knew they were listening to silly entertainment. Also pretty sure there were some people that thought it was real.

Noory doesn’t do the Coast to Coast name justice.

Art had the gift of the pregnant pause- Great suspense and he knew how milk his callers and guests for the best content.

Noory was just a tool. Never could enjoy the show when he was hosting it.

Yeah. There are some here that try to make Farther Martin out to be a bad person. My personal opinion was that he was a really good man. And was just about the only one of Arts guests who was the real deal. And he was most likely murdered for what he was disclosing about the Vatican. The circumstances surrounding his death were very suspicious.

Anyone can hear his last interview here:

Art said many times that his show was ‘pure entertainment’.

It was also extremely thought-provoking; and that’s why so many of us loved him and the show.

A lot of people who never really listened think that all he did was ‘ufo’, ‘ghost’, and other creepy stuff.

But he did a lot of great shows with legitimate scientists, academics, people in law-enforcement and intelligence, and popular entertainers.

He was a consummate interviewer and a very thoughtful man.
