Four US paramedics accused of racially profiling and failing to provide medical care to a dying woman face a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.
Crystle Galloway's mother says medics assumed the Tampa, Florida, family could not afford the ambulance cost.
The 30-year-old's mother drove her to hospital instead. Ms Galloway slipped in to a coma after suffering a presumed stroke, and died five days later.
Hillsborough County officials have already accepted responsibility.
The incident occurred early on the morning of 4 July this year, days after Ms Galloway had given birth by Caesarean section.
Her mother, Nicole Black, called 911 after finding her daughter slumped in the bath, drooling from swollen lips.
The ambulance crew arrived at Ms Galloway's third-floor apartment, and carried her downstairs.
Ms Black told US media. "They kept asking her over and over, 'Do you want to go to the hospital? Do you want to go to the hospital?' She kept begging and telling them yes."

How many days after her Caesarian did she take a bath? How long are women in the hospital after a Caesarian? No Obamacare? Or do Obamacare plans have such high deductibles that folks cannot pay for their medical care and their insurance payments and their deductibles?

I read the article and a recap of what was said. They were probably trying to help because the paramedics know she’ll get a big bill if she doesn’t have insurance and they were giving her the option of having a relative take her. Provided the ER saw her right away, a ride with the paramedics probably wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome.
Their mistake was assuming that she didn’t have a serious condition.
The middle class are the only people who can’t afford it.. The “poor” get a free ride on our dime.
OK, I read some more and they are going to get in trouble:
Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill acknowledged in a press conference on Monday that “we did in fact fail to provide good care to this woman”.
“My guys did a lot of things wrong here and we take responsibility,” he said, acknowledging that the medics had failed to even check the woman’s vital signs.
He added that medics also falsified a report to claim they were unable to locate the patient.
Yeah, they should’ve taken her.
But this isn’t right. “... drooling from swollen lips.” Not a regular stroke, anyways.
Partial facial paralysis certainly can be a sign of stroke. Also there is the increased risk of stroke following a C-Section that should have been considered. They missed up very, very badly. It is not their business to do a financial profile on any patient who needs ambulance service. If they failed to take vital signs as well they will be lucky to retain their certifications.

She could have stroked and fell and hit something. Its not clear what happened.
It makes me mad that illegals would get it paid for but an American would get no financial assistance.
Wait just a minute. On almost every bill I pay there is a tax for ems, fire, 911 call centers, etc.
why weren’t my tax dollars used as appropriated?
This is to insure that anyone that needs medical attional gets it.
Most of us are against socialized medicine but somehow it gets rationalized that emergency care (that is seldom paid for by poor people) doesn’t count
I’m inclined to say privatize it all and let people or their insurance company subscribe to an ambulance/emergency medical care service that fits their means and needs
An ambulance costs thousands because most never pay..only those of us with insurance and the means to pay the difference do
