Will Be Starting Freelancing Online Next Week (Can this be of value to you?)

Posted on 07/30/2018 3:07:40 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

Hey guys, before I say anything, please note that I tried to post this vanity in "general/chat" but there was not a category that fit.

Here's the deal.

I have just taken the (some) steps to start a freelance career.

I have been checking out freelancing for a while now at freelancer.com and upwork.com and others.

I am still an outsider looking in.

But I am going in...and I will share my experiences here for my fellow freepers.

I am going to start with freelance projects that are involved with MS Excel and VBA. Starting at the bottom and working up from there.

Here's the thing for Freepers.

There are many here who are retired or are planning for it.

If we can use our lifelong experiences to make a little money to pay for our retirement...let's go do it.

If any of you retirees or soon to be retirees are interested...let's get a conversation started.

I’m definitely interested, in fact I’ve been doing the same thing only focusing on copywriting and portrait painting. I am also a programmer fairly strong in Javascript and html. Can definitely do great web designs with some of the existing tools.

It takes very dollar of my V.A. disability to live and by the middle of the month ... poof! It’s all gone. Just hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Besides freelancing, has anyone sold items by drop-shipping where you’re not risking your money?

I’m interested. Let me know if it is legit. I’m retiring March 2019 and will HAVE to work part-time somewhere. I have great desktop publishing skills, database, and most software. Currently am a Training Specialist. Would love to make enough to work from home. Sick of corporate world...lol. Retiring at 64 1/2 due to health issues, but could work from home easily. I’m thinking I may have to work retail 2-3 days a week to make ends meet. My job now is high stress. Retail seems like a vacation...and yes, I did a lot of retail in my younger years.

Advice from a seasoned freelancer: Start out bidding pretty low, until you get a few jobs under your belt. Then bid your rate. Don’t worry about people from India bidding $4.00/hr on jobs. You don’t want to work with the people who will hire them. They are used to treating people like they are worth $4.00 and hour. Communicate. Set realistic deadlines and meet them. Don’t be afraid to say NO. There are some very difficult people to work with out there. Do not audition for work; they are trying to get you to do something for free. Good luck! You can make a decent amount, even a living, as a freelancer.

I know this kid that started out freelancing from a website similar to that. He started at 16 and by 21 had built a very successful business designing logos. Not sure where he ended up but made a lot of money in a short time. He was very dedicated and beat doors down to get business. I only need to make a few hundred extra/month. Not expecting to be next Colonel Sanders...lol

If you need/want to split off (from your time) data research, acquisition, organization and analysis, from report creation and VBA, then let me know. We can mutually determine which part is what % of the whole and work something out. It could shorten the time on a gig, which may be appreciated by clients and build a good track record.

I’ve often thought that it would be interesting to set up a seminar on basic life skills for young people - how to set up a budget, pay rent, eat sensibly - all the things parents don’t teach nowadays. Perhaps a Training Specialist like yourself could do that.
