Republican Chris McDaniel's upstart bid for a Mississippi Senate seat is struggling for traction, with the conservative firebrand raising just $173,373 in the second quarter.
The weak performance left McDaniel with a paltry $156,000 in the bank, jeopardizing his special election campaign for the seat vacated earlier this year by Republican Thad Cochran and now held by Cindy Hyde-Smith, who was appointed by GOP Gov. Phil Bryant.
The contest will be decided on Nov. 6, the same day as the midterm election, with a runoff to follow three weeks later, and Hyde-Smith, McDaniel's primary opponent, raised $1.6 million in the second quarter and closed the period with $1.4 million in cash on hand.
Hyde-Smith's money, with more surely to follow in the third quarter not to mention the full support of Bryant's political machine will buy a lot of advertising and finance a robust voter turnout operation in Mississippi. That could leave McDaniel in a hole too deep to dig out of.

We expect to donate to him, again.
The Cheap Labor Express will spend whatever is necessary to keep Amnesty Senators.
Just my take....... McDaniel railroads himself. He is a bigmouth with not much behind it. He is coming close to town territory each time he runs. He seems confused & has no seeming money coming in right out of the gate.
For me his behind the scene machinations regarding Cochran’s wife were deplorable. Cochran played him like a primo violin. Hyde- Smythe looks about to do the same.
In the end McDaniel screams, “never ready for prime time.” I don’t ever see him winning anything of consequence ever.
Just my 2 cents since you asked.
Good Sunday evening to you.
Close to clown territory
horsesh*t. there aren’t any “amnesty republicans” in mississippi.
Haley Barbour and company
He is coming close to town territory
**************
Is that supposed to be ‘clown’ territory?
If not what is town territory?
no thad cochran to run against, thus no real urgency. gov. phil bryant’s (who is very popular) appointee seems perfectly adequate. mcdaniel stepped on his crank after the runoff last time. his followers got caught doing something reprehensible with cochran’s invalid wife in the last primary. and, people saw what happened in alabam, and aren’t to keen on repeating that disaster.
net result; people are smarter this time.
Hyde-Smith and Wicker.
What have either one done to demonstrate they are on the side of the citizens and the rule of law?
what have either done to get your perpetually wadded panties in a wad?
Have you never heard of Haley Barbour?
you’ve obviously looked up wicker and hyde-smith on immigration, and realized you were wrong.
Hyde-Smith has a C and Wicker has a B on NumbersUSA.
I was so angry in 14 at the Mississippi GOP for what they did to McDaniel, I voted Democrat. First and only time i have done that. The anger is still there. Bryant remained quiet and he was a Bush guy in the primary. Hyphenated name used to be Democrat just ten years ago I think
give it a rest. he’s rated 100% by fair and ucsb. it’s mississippi. even a lot of the democrats are strong on immigration.
peddle your purity horror story somewhere else.
Never vote for a woman with a hyphenated name. It’s an annoying affectation.
The only Democrat in Congress from MS has an F grade.
Eight years ago she was a documented Democrat.
“He’s rated 100% by fair and ucsb.”
