This is a drop from 2016 and 2017, during which the average American life expectancy was 79.3 years. Err, I wonder if it is any kind of a factor that Japan is a very homogenous country (including concerning their healthcare).

Having a background in medicine I'm convinced that life expectancy in the US is,to a substantial degree,a function of "lifestyle".

My mother-in-law passed away back in May. She was 97. My father passed away this morning. He was 89. Maybe I go at some age in between the two.

Ask a FOIA of your state medicaid agency, and of Medicare, for the number of people over 90 and their age who are active on those programs. Try to match that with what the Census Bureau says.
