Special counsel Robert Mueller is planning to call 35 witnesses to the stand during the trial starting Tuesday against President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The list of witnesses includes Richard Gates, who was indicted alongside Manafort on charges of bank and tax fraud, but pleaded guilty.

The prosecution is also planning to call Democratic operative Tad Devin, who served as Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) chief strategist when he ran for president in 2016, and Manafort’s assistant, Alex Trusko.

Trusko granted FBI investigators access to a storage locker containing evidence Manafort tried to keep out of the trial, according to media reports.

The list also includes the names of the five financial professionals for whom Judge T.S. Ellis agreed to grant immunity in exchange for their testimony against Manafort: James Brennan, Donna Duggan, Conor O’Brien, Cindy Laporta and Dennis Raico.

The trial begins with jury selection and is expected to last three weeks.

Discovery doesn’t include witness lists and they are not deposed beforehand?

Weasel Mueller is a real Perry Mason, apparently.

Did not know kangaroos could hop non-stop for that long.

I sense an exercise in futility, whereas The President could pardon anyone so convicted.

The judge ruled that Mueller must reveal the names.

I'm surprised there aren't more Freepers open to the possibility that Manafort is a slimy crook -- and perhaps even a hostile mole in the Trump campaign in 2016.

Go back and read about the guy's career in Washington. He sounds exactly like the kind of person Donald Trump had in mind during the 2016 campaign when he promised to "drain the Swamp."

I agree we shouldn’t be in a rush to defend Manafort. My concern is that the charges against Manafort could have been handled by the DOJ. This is way beyond what a special prosecutor should be doing. Mueller is doing this solely because Manafort had a brief connection with the Trump campaign, in order to insinuate guilt by association.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/mueller-witness-list-manafort-virginia

...Among those who could be called to testify against the former Trump campaign chairman are his longtime business partner, Rick Gates; a Democratic strategist who worked on the Ukraine consulting projects with Manafort, Tad Devine; and Alex Trusko, a Manafort personal assistant who let an FBI agent enter Manafort’s storage unit last year...

...The list includes employees — such as Kositzka, Wicks and Company accountants Philip Ayliff and NKSFB’s Heather Washkun — who worked at the bookkeeping and tax preparation firms used by Manafort...

...Taryn Rodriguez is a loan officer assistant at Citizens Bank, which has been identified in media reports as “Lender B” in the Manafort indictment...

...Potential witness Douglas DeLuca appears to be referenced on Mueller’s exhibit list in emails about landscaping invoices and a Manafort property in Virginia. Stephen Jacobsen, the owner of a company listed as a general contractor on renovation projects for Manafort’s homes in the Hamptons and in Brooklyn, is also on Mueller’s list. Mike Regolizio, one of the names on the list, is also the name of a president of a landscaping company in the Hamptons.

Mueller could call to the stand the Virginia realtor who helped Manafort by a condo, Wayne Holland, who also testified in front of the grand jury last year...

I don’t think Manafort is anywhere close to a Tea Partier, but he is still getting the shaft.

Especially compared to the Podestas.

I don’t know the full paper trail on this, but it concerns me that as bad as Mueller is trying to make him look, Mueller may have used fraudulent subpoenas to gather evidence against Manafort.

If Manafort were the biggest crook in the world, he shoudln’t have evidence obtained fraudulently used against him.

It seems to me Mueller’s big play is trying to flip Manafort against Trump. I don’t think Manafort has anything much on Trump, but I do expect Mueller to do his damnedest to make it look like he does, as he smears trump for as much and as long as he can.

If there were known things about Trump, that were like what the Clinton’s had floating around them for the last 30 years, I might cut Mueller some slack.

So far Mueller is still grasping at anything he can think up, to get Trump, and this based on a fraudulent document that was devised in part by Hillary Clinton and unquestioningly political, federal law enforcement operatives, and international players to boot.

Allowing this guy to hound Trump for half his first term based on nothing but a fraudulent vapor trail is probably some form of anti-Constitutional sedition.

Some judge will have to come down on this at some point, and when he does, I hope he throws everything including the kitchen sink at Mueller.

Agreed. And add the Clintons and many of their operatives to this as well.

I've been highly suspicious of him since I read his name when he took over from Lewindowski.

Everyone tells me 'Trump needed him to cinch the nomination.'

What I saw was a deal with the devil.

I don't know if he's a hostile mole (I doubt it) but what I didn't like after reading his bio was that he had 'baggage'.

Was Manafort necessary; the only one who could win Trump the nomination?

We'll never know but Trump is now living with the fallout.
