I think Gore probably spent two to three years in hostility over how it came down. Everything depended upon Florida, and key districts. With the stupid ballots/chads, and the ballots thrown out...his little world collapsed.
It would be curious to go back to 9-11, with a President Gore scenario and see how things would have gone. Maybe his perception of the Saudi involvement would have been different from Bush.
