I wonder if she /they got the usual SS notices showing how much they would/could get in benefits....most folks start getting them a while before they reach “regular” retirement age...

Being on a payroll certainly does. She would have to have filled out a form I-9. There are many pieces of information she could have used, but employers would have been required to use the form I-9.

I have been a payroll supervisor. I couldn’t even hire one of my brothers without them filling out a form I-9.
