Sadly, it is. And if the “moderate” Muslims are serious about being moderate, they need to get a handle on this. Their occasional statements of concern are not enough. And the occasional inter-faith conferences are not enough.
Some sort of Islamic Reformation is needed. But to have a Reformation, you first need people who want a Reformation.
It is impossible to reform Islam.
Any attempt to edit the Koran will be met with death.
Islam has always been a religion of conquest and slavery, murder and mayhem.

When subjugating others by force or slaughter is a major tenet of your religious writings, then the definition of “moderate” simply means “haven’t personally done it yet.”
The Christian Reformation was about denial of the authority of the Pope, about which the Bible is ambiguous.
To "reform" Islam, you would have to get Muslims to disavow whole sections of the Quran and Hadith, which are very explicit about the duty of Muslims to wage jihad to compel the world to accept Allah. That's not going to happen. You might see Muslims walking away from Islam and becoming secular, or joining another religion, but Islam is not going to get "reformed"
