Ditto on the gentrification. People in the burbs swapped long commutes for quality of life. Now the commutes are brutal (and getting worse), the diversity is moving in and taking the streets and schools down with them, and DC is getting too expensive for bargain hunters to move back in. The saving grace for suburbanites is that they spend most of their non-work, waking hours in their cars, so they’re not much affected by the rot as long as they can afford private school tuition.
