Boo hoo... Now you need to pay the real price of the car instead of the subsidized price... In Canada, electric vehicles are purely for the rich because typically you aren't going to rely on an electric vehicle where the climate is pretty frosty for most of the year... Travel distances are reduced way too much.

Rich liberals love subsidies and hate paying a price for their carbon reduction... They would prefer that the taxpayers pay for it. Good for Rob Ford and the Ontario Conservatives...

All these cars, electric, hybrid, etc., should include on the price sticker the real price and the amount of tax benefits, tax subsidy, etc. Let these cars survive in a free market.

experience elsewhere shows that sales of electric vehicles take a hit when subsidies are removed

Yeah, but it's good for the taxpayers not to have help pay for someone else's car.

Some Tesla customers say they now have to fork over an extra $14,000 for their new Model 3 electric cars

"Fork over". They make it sound like they shouldn't have to pay full price for a car that they want. Hey, you can buy a more reasonably priced car (even electric) at many other car companies. Tesla = virtue signaling; and, I don't think other American tax payers should have to pay for their virtue signaling.

...

I think the gist of this article is that those who ordered from a dealer are being given preferential treatment.

So basically - no one wants these cars without a massive government subsidy....

Elon Musk is taking his manufacturing to Singapore, planning to make 500,000 cars a year. He can’t even find a way to sell even 5,000 now.

“David Adams, president of the Global Automakers of Canada industry association, said Friday that experience elsewhere shows that sales of electric vehicles take a hit when subsidies are removed,”

You mean when they stop stealing others peoples money to pay for the car of someone else.

I took a BMW i3 on an overnight test drive last year and it would be hard to exaggerate just how unimpressed I was.I know that it's a different vehicle but the basic concept is the same. The thought of running out of juice and then needing a tow truck is outrageous! I just bought a car that gives 44mpg on the highway and has an 18 gallon tank. And it can be “recharged” in four minutes at any one of 35,000 ‘recharging’ stations nationwide.

Unfair?!?!?!?

It was unfair that they got the subsidy in the first place.

It was "his father". So see, we're supposed to feel sorry because dear old dad couldn't get the car he wanted.

How old is dear old dad? If he is still in his 50's/60's then he should be arguing for himself and not using his son as a spokesperson. If he's older then he really should be buying a much more reliable car.

If the son really cared about "dear old dad" then he would have talked him out of an electric car that could leave him stranded in the middle of nowhere in the cold.

Apparently every Model 3 car sold so far and that have 400,000 people on a waiting list are getting an upgraded Model 3 that costs $50,000+ NOT the $35,000 base version people were looking forward to based on the price. This article explains in may be a while before the mass produced $35k version is available to the public, and by that time a $7500 tax subsidy will have run out making the car a $42500 car.

Auto sales experts give 3 reasons consumers may want to wait for the Tesla Model 3

You’re right on with eliminating the subsidized price but the real price is a bit more involved. Before getting to that though, I think one aspect was specifically targeted to Tesla. That was the deal where electric cars had the subsidy ended immediately versus termination in September for cars sold through a dealership.

Tesla or for that matter most products sold manufacturer direct avoid middleman markups. I’m not acquainted with auto dealer markups so can’t say much about them.

While working in Ontario for about a year, I had to purchase quite a few industrial items. I respected the company’s ‘buy Canadian’ policy but rebelled in one instance as the price was 50% greater than off the shelf US price plus it was going to take several weeks to get the items. Hardly off the shelf. The manufacturer was setup for international shipping and even had an ecommerce website to use. I had the material in 2-days, duty paid at a radically lower delivered price. I really didn’t like getting screwed by the CA distributor that had an exclusive territory for Ontario and Quebec.

He’s upset because his fellow taxpayers are no longer on the hook for his indulgence?! This doesn’t even move the dial on the “sympathy” meter but it definitely pegs the schadenfreude one!

The price of virtue signaling has just risen unexpectedly.

It’s a good thing that Canada doesn’t have a 1st Amendment, or some lefty with a bend-over judge would get an injunction against it on ‘free speech’ grounds.

‘Cause signaling is speech, dontyaknow.
