UK premier Theresa May is reported to have told her Cabinet that a change to her Brexit plan was not possible, after consulting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The two leaders have met twice in the past week.

Does Merkel hold any official position as the leader of the EU? Or is she just doing the typical German thing claiming influence over everything even though it is not officially her decision to make?

The EU is Germany’s chameleon. They hide behind it when it’s to their advantage to do so. It completely disappears when it’s not.
