O.K., call me crazy but I’m thinking the purse did it and was trying to escape. It had to stop walking when somebody noticed it was by the elevator.

Check the phone in the purse and see if it called Uber....

I also suspect the purse. No gun was in the area at the time. It (purse) ran to the elevator after pushing her down the trash chute. (Perhaps it was one of those cheap angry knock off hand bags?)

Then again, the police don't suspect anyone. Apparently people throw themselves into trash compactors after leaving their purses on elevators everyday. Nothing to see here move along....
