With surprisingly moderate changes of the Dramatis personae at the top, New Yorkers could enact, gradually and incrementally, a lot of the same kind of "baby step" measures that have closed clinics and deeply cut abortion numbers in many states.

There are many areas in the US where you'd have to drive for hours to find an abortionist. And some areas even in New York State (mostly rural areas, it's true) are 100 miles from an abortionist. Check out this map:
