Trump Defies McConnell with SCOTUS Pick
Breitbart ^ | July 9, 2018 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 07/09/2018 9:52:48 PM PDT by conservative98

President Donald Trump defied advice from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in picking Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, a move that resulted in a potential Justice who would have one of the most conservative records on the high court.

Democrats, including former staff for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, are already seizing on McConnell’s advice to the president as a line of attack against Kavanaugh.

McConnell, as Breitbart News and the New York Times reported on Saturday night, was pushing Trump to pick Judge Ray Kethledge–or Judge Tom Hardiman–since McConnell believed they would face an easier Senate confirmation than Kavanaugh or Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

“McConnell has said he does not want a SCOTUS battle in an election year,” one source who had been briefed on McConnell’s private comments to many people in Washington told Breitbart News on Saturday. “He thinks Kethledge would be easy to confirm because Kethledge is not a consistent conservative.”

If McConnell wanted a different nominee, he should have run for president. If the Dems wanted a different nominee, they should have nominated a better candidate for president, lost the virulent identity politics that alienate potential voters and listened to what Americans across all demographic categories want.

Thats a defining moment. The turtle was about to get a new a- hole reamed.

PDJT scares the livin’ daylights out of the turtle, who is a “never Trumper,” and the turtles extended family is in deep with questionable business ties to the Red Chinese through his powerful little Chinese wifey. The Donald will never hesitate to crack his whip over those two.I am surprised both the turtle and his wife have lasted this long.

So here we are again with people that dont know enough to not pop off on these picks, and have all of a sudden become experts on folks they just met a week ago.

I agree and am sick of FReepers who are constantly defeatists on everything.

They were the ones who hated Trump's tax plan, Gorsuch, and his trade war....because they still do not trust him or understand him.

These are the FReepers who find defeat in every victory.

Funny you should say about the “eyes,” I looked at him and thought “Christopher Wrey.”

I pray I am wrong and be pleasantly surprised.

I can only hope.

The President often turns out to be right.

And there will be a conservative judge to replace Kavanaugh’s current seat on the Appeals Court.

Someone on the radio (conservative talk) said this: with Kavanaugh's elevation to the Supreme Court, Trump will then be able to fill the Judge's vacating seat on the DC Court.

Double kick in the pants to the left!

I was wrong about Trump. I was solidly against him when he was running - knowing that he spent most of his life as a Democrat. I was at the point that I would have almost rather have had a Democrat in office that claimed to be a Democrat than another RINO claiming to be a Republican while ruining the country (not enough to vote for Hillary, or not vote btw). Trump has happily proved me wrong and I am now solidly behind him and happier than I have been, ever, with my president. Hopefully this SC pick proves to be the exact right choice for our times. Prayers are being answered.

Depends on November - if we take 5 Senate seats then LOTS can finally be done there - including the rubber stamping of judges (and justices) and the end of the filibuster.

So, as far as I’m concerned, I’d like to see him on the bench, but if not, I’ll be happy to bask in the afterglow.

Agreed an open fight through the summer into fall over the Supreme Court will get the non traditional MAGA voters to show up...

McDonnell doesn’t understand the electorate, none of the GOPe does.

A quiet fall equals a loss of the house to Democrats.

The Left can rant and rave all they like. They can’t however credibly claim that Kavanaugh is a choice any other Republican President would not have made. He’s a very solid and eminently qualified judge.

The real fun - the real game changer - is going to be when Trump gets to replace one of the Gang of Four. Hopefully it’s several of them and soon. So far two strict constructionists (mostly in Kennedy’s case) have been replaced with two younger strict constructionists. We’ve just held serve. Replacing one of the Leftist zealots on the court will be real progress.

Your post should be the start of a new thread entitled "I was wrong about Trump. Happily, I might add!"

I couldn’t agree with you more.

I’m sick of all the complaining too.

When Jay Sekulow, who knows something about the law and how critical it is to have an originalist on the high court, say he has known Kavanaugh for years and that the President has made “an excellent” choice, that he couldn’t have made a better one, tells me all I need to know about Brett Kavanaugh.

Our brains must be siblings. You just wrote exactly what I am thinking.

I never considered President Trump a serious man, let alone president. Never even watched The Apprentice, or followed what his plans were.

I am ashamed to tell you what I did on election day 2016, suffice it to say that I have become such a devoted fan that I cannot miss one of his rallies, and I search through all the shows on Fox Business looking for him to make an appearance and just click through the rest of the show.

We are, indeed, blessed and like Chris Matthews (worthless lib), I do get goose bumps for a far, far worthier man.

P. S. I am amazed at what he has done for our country!!!!!

“McConnell has said he does not want a SCOTUS battle in an election year,”

What a girlie man - he should not be in the leadership in 2018. He is a throw back to the 1000 points of light and Bush #43 times.
