Mar-a-Lago seeks to hire 40 foreign waiters and waitresses under the H-2B visa program, which allows American employers to hire foreigners on a seasonal basis if there is not a sufficient supply of qualified Americans.

I wish.

Hey New York Daily News!

Why don't you advocate for abolishing the welfare state so the moochers can get jobs like these instead of outsourcing to foreign workers?

FAIL

Legal, documented, above-the-board foreign laborers obtaining sponsored visas to work and paying taxes.

Number of these people who arrive in the USA by wading the Rio grande, smuggled in the back of a tractor trailer, or being led across the desert under cover of darkness? Maybe it isn’t zero, but I’d bet the number is damned close.

I never understand why the deliberate confusion of legal v. illegal immigrant is allowed to go unchallenged as often as it is.

Americans can be waiters. It’s not beneath them.

Bah. They will be legal, but still. Bad optics.

Politically, not a good day for Trump, or the GOP.

This morning, Scott Pruitt, the only consequential Conservative in the Trump Administration, resigned.

This afternoon, news leaked that the Trump Palm Beach resort is seeking 40 work visas for low skill foreign labor.

This evening, Drudge posts a Reuters/Ipsos poll that states immigration is the number one issue for 26% of Republican voters.

“Sweeping layoffs have reduced its [NY Daily News] staff. The paper’s circulation, which exceeded two million a day in the 1940s, is now in the low hundred thousands. And The Chicago Tribune reported on Monday that Tronc purchased The News for just $1, plus the assumption of liabilities.”

WTF!?
this looks just TERRIBLE!

and I refuse to believe they can’t find 40 Americans willing to work there

H1B was meant for people with specialized skills not available in USA (meaning, very few people) but the program has been abused to turn millions of American citizens out of work

Well it IS hard to find Millennials who are willing to do actual work. My lawn mowing guy is having a heck of a time finding one. He says they spend every free second on thier damned phones. And they suck at doing a good job.

However, what about hiring older American citizens who are willing to do the work and need a job?

All the workers leave during the summer and there is a huge shortage of motel workers in that area.

Re: “I never understand why the deliberate confusion of legal v. illegal immigrant is allowed to go unchallenged as often as it is.”

No one reading this post is confused about legal/illegal labor.

Bottom Line...

There is no unskilled labor shortage in America.

Mar-a-Lago needs to increase wages until all 40 jobs are filled by Americans.

If Mar-a-Lago can't afford to raise wages, then it needs to develop a new business plan.

My neighbor came up from the north pasture a few weeks ago and said “Trump is broke” and I said really take a look at his club, by the way, he isn’t getting paid to be president.

we are still friends

Ha! That won’t sway any true conservative from supporting the Trump Administration. Those employees are temporary, and the Trump Administration’s proposed immigration reform is the best that we could get for now with more to come. When are the Democrats and RINOs going to quit fighting it and pass it?

I grew up in south Florida.

I have seen Mar-a-Lago from the street, from the water, and from the air.

It was still a private home in those years, so I have never been on the property.

The home was actually built in the 1920s. Trump bought it in 1985, according to Wiki.

It is an amazing and beautiful home/club.

Many people responsible for hiring are impatient about hiring and don’t want to weed through many spoiled or addicted applicants. I’m acquainted with a few of those managers. It’s likely that the visa applicants—mostly around coastal areas—already have clean background checks.

Sorry, I’m still stuck on the “magic” of wage increases.

There is some price point where you can fill all 40 jobs with honest, reliable, hard working, sober Americans.

We have imported about 12 million LEGAL immigrants in the last 10 years. That does not even include the 1.5+ million work visas we issue each year.

And still, business owners cry out for “More. More. More.”

Massive LEGAL immigration has completely warped our economy, our capital investments, our R&D, and our long term planning.

Every day, hundreds of new businesses are created in America, based only on the financially deranged expectation that the supply of cheap, docile, foreign labor is unlimited.
