Schumer faces heavy pressure from left on Supreme Court
The Hill ^ | 07/02/18 | Alexander Bolton

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) is under pressure from the left to whip Democrats hard to oppose any Supreme Court nominee who might vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that established a woman’s right to an abortion.

Liberal activist groups are urging their supporters to attend a town hall meeting with Schumer in Brooklyn on Monday night and press him to commit to squeeze red-state Democrats who might feel pressure to back Trump’s pick.

“We expect his constituents to be asking him really directly if he is going to commit to whipping the caucus and keeping Democratic voters together and in line in opposing Trump’s extreme Supreme Court nominee,” said Elizabeth Beavers, associate policy director at Indivisible Project, a liberal advocacy group dedicated to defeating the Trump agenda and electing progressive leaders.

“We’ll be actively encouraging our members over social media tonight to go to that event and encourage Schumer to whip the caucus for this vote,” said Neil Sroka, communications director at Democracy for America, another liberal advocacy group.

“If you care about the constitutionally protected right for women to choose what happens with their own bodies, there’s zero reason for why you should be voting for Donald Trump’s nominee,” Sroka said.

He also cast it as determining the future of Roe v. Wade.

“Perhaps the most consequential issues at stake in this Supreme Court vacancy are affordable health care and a woman’s freedom to make the most sensitive medical decisions about her body,” Schumer wrote. “The views of President Trump’s next court nominee on these issues could well determine whether the Senate approves or rejects them.”

Yeah, libs. Have 3-4 Dem senators up for re-election vote against the Trump nominee and commit political hari-kari in the process. Leading to an easier confirmation the next time Trump nominates for SCOTUS. Brilliant.

The fact that a democrat “leader” would answer to
leftist pressure only goes to show you who he is.

Yes, I’m talking about YOU Chuck .

Please show me where abortion is a right in the Constitution. I may have missed that part.

I always think it’s odd the left seldom mentions abortion by that name. They talk of being pro choice, and talk of safeguarding women’s health and women’s rights. But often they don’t mention the word abortion.

McCain, if he’s still alive when the nomination goes to the full Senate, will not be present to vote (same as a “no”). The hatchet face sisters, Collins and Murkowski, are problematic, and Flake may pull a McCain on the Senate floor. Don’t think Sen. Yertle (RINO-KY) will get three RATS from red states to flip — maybe just Manchin, if even him. At best, this will be a toss up, with Pence likely being the deciding vote. Trump will have to nominate someone completely opaque on Roe, and that excludes Roman Catholic Barrett with her seven children (two adopted). In my mind, better a man, anyway, a young one...and a Protestant.

Pure fertilizer.

Mister Schumer IS the "left"; and, any alleged "pressure" is from his own DNA.

Brown shirt, control freak, Khmer Rouge, Bolsheviks.

Have you noticed how they loved Obamas' executive orders but they hate Trumps' executive orders?

They didn't call Obama a dictator but they call Trump a dictator.

They saw Obama as a dictator but he was their dictator so it was ok.

That's why they call Trump a dictator. He's just not their dictator.

That “pressure” Schumer is experiencing is probably from Mikey Moore sitting on his head.

All the more reason to nominate Amy Barrett...triangulate the D’s who have been playing identity politics by forcing them to oppose a woman.

Yup...it's great either way. Think about the ads that will be run against these folks if they happen to stop the nominee. You can bet they're already in the hopper.
